3.3. — The third square — types 3, 11, 6 and 9.
Above I present the square of types 3, 11, 6, and 9.
In contrast to the first and second square, the movement in the third square can take place in the same frequency in both directions. (That is, clockwise and counter-clockwise direction). It means, it is difficult to say where types from the third square go more often? Whether toward Strong or Soft Self-Esteem State?
Enneagram states that the direction of movement during the comfort take place clockwise between types 3, 6 and 9, (in Enneagram there is not type 11).
But during the developing of the Mandala of Characters, I have bigger and bigger doubts about it. From my observation appear the fact that in every square, types can move in both directions during the Strong of Soft Self-Esteem State. (That is, according to Enneagram during comfort or stress). I can say only that some types move more often in one direction than the other. Or that types can move as often to one direction as in the other direction.
The observations which I am describing above I had in this stage of the development of the Mandala of Characters. Later, I had changed my findings, according to my following observations. I will describe my later conclusions in one of the next chapters.
Next, I will shortly describe the above four types creating the first square. Please treat these descriptions only as a brief introduction. Or a small fragment of this, how particular types can look like? In more details, I will gradually describe types of characters in separate works with my studies, analysis, and synthesis.
3.3.1. — Type 3 — Shame, Water, Feeling—central or straight.
Typology | Name of the type in given typology |
---|---|
Enneagram | Type 3—Performer |
Psychological Types by C. G. Jung | No equivalent |
Ancient System | Temperament—Phlegmatic Element—Air |
3.3.1.1. — Type 3 (Felling—central or straight) — Conscious State.
In the Conscious State, Type 3 is often very active. He likes to have something to do and to be busy. Quite often, he gives the impression that he has installed a power generator, which constantly drives him for some action. So, it looks like that he is always on the move.
In general, his attention is addressed to two matters: material things and contacts with other people. From these results, for example, that:
- He tries to select his interests and works in this way that he can do both. It means, to have to company of others, and to have the opportunity to get further material goods.
- He often takes care for the look or appearance. It connects with the fact that he likes to have many contacts with different people. For example, he takes care of being well-dressed, physical condition, shaping figure, bodybuilding, good body condition, etc.
He can work in all kinds of work that requiring interacting with many people. He also likes to have a big impact on people, and he is able to encourage them to get involved in various matters. On the other side, if he is selfish, he tries to engage others mainly in his own matters.
Type 3 also likes to spend time in the company of others. Often he is able to be a social butterfly. Or in other words, he can be the soul, or “life of the party”.
He has a lot of patience for people, and he can often get along with each other. This ability to reach the agreement with everyone, he is able to achieve thanks to his sense of someone’s needs. This sense helps him to be supportive in solving someone’s problems. He often feels good in various public places, and he spends a lot of time away from home. And he can like to be away even then when he is rich, and he has the house which is functional, beautiful, and comfortable. Interestingly, he is not spending too much time at home, even then, when he has abilities to improve his home. E.g., when he is gifted in handcrafting, building, gardening, etc. But it can be an exception from it. That is, he can spend more time in the home in the case when his home serves him as a meeting place with others.
In general, he feels good in such places as cafes, bars, restaurants, etc. So, these are places where there is something:
- for the body (something good to eat and drink),
- and for the spirit (that is, the peoples’ company).
In such situations, he can talk for hours about various topics. For example, he can give advises to others, listen to someone’s stories and biographies or confessions about problems. In this behavior, specific is this, that he likes to discover people’s secrets. To achieve this, he uses different ways of getting into a close relationship with others. Next, Type 3 can use the knowledge about other’s secrets to impress someone. For example, impress by this that he is so oriented what is going on around! Or he can pass on to someone others secrets because it can encourage him to confide his secrets. So, passing the secret of someone can lead to getting another secret from someone else. Also, he can use someone’s secrets for some own benefits or use them to carry out his plans and projects.
Generally speaking, Type 3 is trying to make friends with whomever he can. He hopes that in the future it will be useful. In a sense, he is following the principle that it is hard for the friend to refuse any favors. Often, however, he simply looks for good contacts, which if necessary will bring him any benefits. And, that is why in the long run, he keeps mainly those contacts that suppose might be needed for something.
For this reason, he can work well in the activities that provide some service to people. It means, he can work in professions, where except the professional skills, we need to add other skills. For instance, we need to create a proper atmosphere. So, Type 3 can be suitable in professions such as assistant, guide, guardian, carer, barman, waiter, cook, chef, actor, activist, etc. But, of course, it will be the best if at the same time, he is interested in his profession, and he has a talent for it.
3.3.1.2. — Type 3 (Felling—central or straight) — Strong Self-Esteem State (Power State).
In the Strong Self-Esteem State, Type 3 can use friends for some of his goals. Often he is quite effective in using them because it is difficult for them to refuse Type 3 favors that he is asking. He owes this, among other things, to his policy of making friends with whomever he can, and to use these friendships in various ways. If he does not do it too often, he usually gets away with it. And people who have been used by him, often only after some time, they realize that they have been used.
However, he also sometimes exaggerates because he is trying to get more and more from his friends and exploit them as much as possible. It happens then, that Type 3 is sometimes very difficult to satisfy. At the same time, he has such a feature that others have a truly challenging problem with him. That is, for others it can be difficult to free themselves from his company and to stop to be under his strong influence.
However, if someone manages to somehow break with him, Type 3 is not giving up so easily. It means, he can check from time to time, whether it is possible to renew this contact? For example, he reminds of his existence through postcards, telephones, text messages, e-mails, social networks, etc. In fact, he can every day devote some time for maintaining contacts. It looks like, that it is part of his daily schedule. He is doing this because someday there might be an opportunity to use his friends for something. However, this using of friends often is not even particularly unpleasant. He tries to do it always in a charming way. He is like a thief gentleman, on whom it is difficult to be angry that he took something from us. Besides, he often gives us his charming company. And it is not the big problem for us that he is doing it regardless of whether we want it or not? So, in fact, he is repaying us by giving us his company, and in a sense, he pays us for his use of us. Then, it comes out that Type 3 will feel good if he has a job in which he will be paid for his company.
3.3.1.3. — Type 3 (Felling—central or straight) — Soft Self-Esteem State (Vulnerable State).
In the Soft Self-Esteem State, Type 3, for example, likes to look for some pleasures. The best if it will be connected with the company of some new or old friends. Thanks to this, he wants to improve his mood and improve this self-esteem. So, he is trying to get support from his friends. And, in the company of others, he tries to do something nice for him. For example, he is creating or arranging situations in this way that he will be able to improve his well-being. His friends, of course, often give in to this. They accompany him and actively engage in his matters, problems, and projects. However, sometimes it is quite difficult because it happens that he does not care too much about others. And then, for example, he can organize time and various activities for us. Or he will cleverly involve us in accompanying him in what he does, and what he wants to achieve? At the same time, he usually has a lot of energy.
All in all, friends who assist him in improving his mood after such a “seance” or “session” are often very “happy”. It means they are “happy” that this “session” finally is finished. However, it sometimes happens that this “happiness” is coming too early. It may turn out that Type 3 can come back and continue the action of helping him in his problems. Among other things that can discourage others to help him is it, that he is not using the help that others offered him. And often he is able to discourage even these people who are sincerely involved in helping him. For example, he is not coming to an appointment, during which, some favor was supposed to be done for him.
Generally speaking, in the Conscious State and in the Strong Self-Esteem State, he can be a great assistant, barman, helper, etc. But in the Soft Self-Esteem State, he is expecting from others that they will be his assistants and helpers. And also, he is capable of not having respect for people who are willing to help him. This disrespect may manifest by this that he wants others to be all the time to his exclusive disposition.
So, the behavior of Type 3 is sometimes unexpected and not nice for others. Then, it turns out that it can be difficult to be his close friend. This fact is often hard to understand for Type 3 because, in his opinion, he is very kind and friendly to others.
3.3.1.4. — Type 3 (Felling—central or straight) — Unconscious State.
In the Unconscious State, Type 3 moves to Type 6. Then, for example, he is plunging into considerations about his tragic fate. Tragic in his opinion of course. Many times during Unconscious State it is difficult for him to get out of these thoughts and make any move. So, he can become suddenly very passive or effortless, and he can avoid contact with people.
He focuses more on thinking than on action. Rather, he will spend time at home than outside. In the home, he can study something or get into some logical reasoning that will help him to understand various life problems.
If he is very nervous, he can be full of tension, and he has a “short fuse”. Suddenly, for example, he “explodes” with great anger. At the same time, he is not thinking too much about consequences and the fact that it may harm him. Harm him in some way, in shorter or longer term. So, Type 3 by his uncontrolled emotions can spoil his opinion as a person who is helpful and friendly. However, after such “explosions” he usually can quickly cool down, and again he is trying consciously to control himself.
In general, in the Unconscious State Type 3 will act very logically. Then, in his thinking, he will be guided mainly by logic. He tries to use logic or reasoning to get what he needs. Also, it happens that he can be very selfish or calculating, and he may lack feeling and empathy for others.
The fact, that Type 3 in his Unconscious State is turning towards logic or reasoning may seem odd and unusual. It is so because usually, we connect the unconscious with something illogical. Instead, we combine the unconscious rather with feelings, some visions, art, something irrational, etc. However, in the case of Type 3 (and Types 2 and 4) is the opposite. The emotional side is in the Consciousness, and logical side in the Unconsciousness.
3.3.2. — Type 11 — Sorrow, Earth, Sensing—central or straight.
Typology | Name of the type in given typology |
---|---|
Enneagram | No equivalent |
Psychological Types by C. G. Jung | No equivalent |
Ancient System | Temperament—Melancholic Element—Earth |
3.3.2.1. — Type 11 (Sensing—central or straight) — Conscious State.
In the Conscious State, Type 11 focuses on concrete things. In both in the typical material sense and in the sense of concrete knowledge. The concrete knowledge it is the knowledge which is proven in life, or in various experiments. And we know that it will bring some benefits to us.
He is able to learn and to follow strictly various regulations, orders, recommendations, etc. For example, at work, he is capable of doing everything as it should be done. Besides, he can constantly get to know about the latest regulations. Next, he quickly becomes familiar with it, and without delay, he starts to use new rules and decisions.
Type 11 is often very straightforward. He can just say what he thinks without too much thinking about what consequences can cause by this what he is saying? At work, such an employee can be very valuable because he is able to bring to light current and significant problems. It means problems that everybody notices and complaints about it, but nobody is not doing anything to change it. Type 11 by expressing these problems openly is gaining the appreciation of one part of the team. But at the same time, he is also getting hidden disapproval of another part of workers who are not willing to make any changes.
The action comes to him very easily. He can start doing something without special introductions, preparations, and considerations. It can be a reason for the fact that he prefers to do clearly defined activities. So, he likes to do something without special nuances and unpredictable surprises.
The main motivation for action for him are material things, or the means that lead to it. For example, money, appropriate tools, devices, methods, etc. He likes to have nice, comfortable, well-furnished place where he likes to have what he likes. This place it can be apartment, studio, workshop, etc. So, this place should be suitable to this, what he is doing in life, and it has to be easy to access when he need it.
Generally speaking, wherever possible, he likes to occupy a suitable position. The position that brings him precisely these benefits which he is expecting to get. Type 11 can also be very talkative when he thinks that he needs it. At that time, he can give the impression that talking does not tire him at all. Depending on what he wants to achieve, he can give others a lot of fun, or he can drive them crazy. So, often he is an ideal material for occupations, where we have to use speaking. For example, it can be work in the media, business, sales, healthcare, various services, etc. Well, probably he cannot quite like the work as a teacher. It is because this profession still brings some new and difficult to predict novelties that may surprise him too much. Instead, Type 11 likes to have everything fixed, he wants to know exactly what is going on around him, and what he can expect? The above examples of occupations may be the general rule. But what Type 11 will suit, of course, depends mostly on individual interests, talents and on personal self-development.
3.3.2.2. — Type 11 (Sensing—central or straight) — Strong Self-Esteem State (Power State).
In the Strong Self-Esteem State, Type 11 likes to be in a situation which he is familiar and knows well. Then, it is easier for him to get some benefits for himself. The more benefits, the better. This actually fascinates him when he manages to get as much as possible for himself. Of course, at the same time, he is counting that he will lose as little as possible. Or he will remain completely untouched and unpunished by potential consequences. Therefore, he strives to explore and be up to date with various regulations, lows, recommendations, etc. Often he does so, for example, in work. He behaves in this way because he can appropriately “set up” to these regulations. Besides, he can find some gaps in them. Thanks to this, he is able cleverly to manipulate them. In a sense, he can take shortcuts or go around problematic regulations, and anyway, he will defend his good position in work or in private life. When he manages to avoid something or get some profits, he seems very satisfied and proud of himself. Then, he feels that he is really alive. He also likes to tell his friends and colleagues about it. Surprisingly, he looks like as if he is not afraid, that it might be brought to light. However, even if his “combinations” are discovered, or he is caught red-handed, he often gets away with it. It is so because others do not really know how to react to his bold behavior and usually do not respond at all. However, if others will be able to react somehow, Type 11 can out-talk them. Thanks to this, the topic of conversation is going to other issues and matters.
Generally, Type 11 gives the impression that he likes this kind of “combinations”, game-play, hazard and the risk which is involved in it.
What drives him to take such risk?
He hopes that he will manage to do something beneficial for him. If he is able to get something that he was aiming for, it often gives him a lot of fun and satisfaction.
In the strong Self-Esteem State, Type 11 also likes to stay in his well-appointed flat. There he likes, freely and without embarrassment, to do what he wants. And, he does not like to be disturbed and judged by an undesirable person. He tries to arrange his apartment, according to his caprice or pleasure, his comfort, and his habits. At the same time, he does not like when somebody tries to change something or even make a comment about it.
Type 11 has priceless and valuable ability to give help and share with others his experience and knowledge. Besides, he can see exactly what help someone need and next he is ready to provide this help. This is extremely valuable because many types of characters often want to help or give advice on what is not needed or is not necessary for somebody. Also, Type 11 is giving help honestly.
Of course, he can be willing to give us help insincerely. But it is often visible in his behavior. For example, when, unasked, he suddenly is doing some work for us. Especially, this work which we like, or we have no problem with doing it. Then, we can be almost sure that in a short time, he will ask us for something. It can be requested for a favor, proposition of doing some business together, asking for information, etc. Other types of characters are also indeed able to do so. But in the case of Type 11 (and also Types 10 and 12), it is the most obvious and predictable. Particularly, when he is doing for us, what he likes, and he wants to set us up in doing something, what he does not like.
3.3.2.3. — Type 11 (Sensing—central or straight) — Soft Self-Esteem State (Vulnerable State).
In the Soft Self-Esteem State, Type 11 begins to be strongly guided by logic and at the same time by feelings. He makes an impression as if he likes the stressful situations. It is because, he is able to relax, and simultaneously act in a very thoughtful and consistent. Thanks to this, he usually gets out of the troubles, in which he puts himself from time to time. Also, he can be very kind and sociable. This fact additionally is helping him even easier to get off the problems. However, if things do not go his way, then he becomes more talkative, and sometimes he is very loud and noisy. All in all, he can be difficult to bear for the environment. He complains, protests, grieves, grumbles, etc., and it is hard to stop these behaviors. If these behaviors do not work, he can use his strength. It means the women most of the time use the power of their arguments. Men, also, can use the power of arguments, and if it does not work, they can use physical strength. Representatives of Type 11 are hoping that this power or strength will change an undesirable and disliked situation. And as a result, the situation will become favorable for them.
Type 11 also does not withdraw so easily from his “claims”. When he does not succeed at the first time, he makes next attempts, until finally he “comes out ahead”.
3.3.2.4. — Type 11 (Sensing—central or straight) — Unconscious State.
In the Unconscious State, Type 11, moves to opposite Type 9. Then, he often withdraws to his comfortable home, where he can do some considerations. He does it surrounded by various material things that he managed to get earlier in his life.
Then, for example, he can sit in a comfortable chair, and he can have some good food in from of him. He can watch a movie, or occupy himself with other less specific matters.
Type 11 in his Unconscious State is ready to deal with some difficult to predict issues. So, at that time, he can feel safe enough to deal with issues which he tries to avoid in his three other psychological states. That is Conscious State, Strong, and Soft Self-Esteem State. For example, he can deal with some fantasies and considerations about some unusual things, matters, and situations.
Then, he can talk to or discuss with close relatives or friends on some specific subjects. Also, he is ready to enter various new areas of knowledge and new ideas. New ideas that will not quickly bring certain and clearly defined profits and benefits. Sometimes he can also be ready to meet people who have unusual views. However, it must be a suitable atmosphere and an appropriate place for it. Place where he really feels safe and comfortable.
3.3.3. — Type 6 — Fear, Fire, Thinking—central or straight.
Typology | Name of the type in given typology |
---|---|
Enneagram | Type 6—Loyal Skeptic |
Psychological Types by C. G. Jung | No equivalent |
Ancient System | Temperament—Choleric Element—Fire |
3.3.3.1. — Type 6 (Thinking—central or straight) — Conscious State.
In the Conscious State, Type 6, on the one hand, can be very happy very joyful and accessible. And on the other hand, he can be serious and distanced. It can manifest, for example, in the way that when we come to him, at the first moment, he can behave as if nothing has happened, and if he did not notice us at all. For example, he does not interrupt the activity which he is doing in giving moment. It can cause confusion in us. And, we may not know, how actually to behave correctly with his not uninviting attitude. However, after some time, he may suddenly break away from his activity. Even if it is an activity of a type such as watching TV or doing something on his phone. And then, he can give us a nice smile, and he starts talking to us. It also happens that he can keep doing something, and he will not stop until he finishes. And then, for example, after one hour, he will eventually break away, and start a friendly conversation with us, as if nothing has happened.
Generally speaking, he can be very focused on the various issues which he wants or must do. Of course, the best are occupations or activities that attract him. When he does something, he can do it as if he was somewhere in his world. From time to time, he will emerge from his world. And if he will want, he will let influence himself by the environment around. Or he will tune himself to pay attention to what is happening around him.
However, it is very interesting that we might get the impression, that Type 6 does not really know what is going on around him. But, although it may seem paradoxical, Type 6 usually knows more accurately and in more detail about everything that happens around him than most of the types of characters. Even when he is talking with somebody, he has insight and contact with the surroundings. It looks like that he has some kind of radar penetrating the environment. So, actually, nothing escapes his attention.
Type 6, on the one hand, prefers calm places, in which there is not much going on, and everything can be kept under control. If too much happens, it can annoy and upset him. On the other hand, however, Type 6 can cope very well in places where a lot is happening at the same time, and it is difficult to control the course of events. He is able to be self-controlled and focused. He strives to persistently survive a difficult situation and hold out until the situation is brought back under control. Or he can continue a hard and complicated task, occupation, or work until finally it will be finished. This type, therefore, often demonstrate the strong willpower, and he can be very resistant to various hardships. He can also act very quickly in the situation which requires it. So, he can work well in professions requiring strength, and fast and decisive response. Such as healthcare, security, logistics, and every job where responsibility, determination, and endurance are needed.
The above examples of professions are not, of course, a determinant of where Type 6 should work. The question, what the Type 6 should do depends primarily on his interests, talents, and level of self-development. Besides, the predispositions of Type 3 are so useful that he can contribute a lot to any workplace, and he will be a valuable member of a team.
3.3.3.2. — Type 6 (Thinking—central or straight) — Strong Self-Esteem State (Power State).
In the Strong Self-Esteem State, Type 3 may prefer to be in calm places. Places which are well-known for him, where he is able to control what is going on around. It is also difficult for him to enter into a new life situation. It takes a long time to undertake new tasks. Besides having time for himself, he prefers to be in retreat. He likes a quiet and comfortable place to live. He also likes to live with someone who is not too nervous because he does not like to be alone. It means, he often likes to be alone, but he does not like isolation. He likes to have access to someone he likes and to whom he has sympathy. Or at least have access to someone he tolerates and to whom he can talk to when he wants to. He has fun for chatting with someone on various topics. However, he often talks about his work. Also, it will be nice if there is something good to eat and drink while having a chat. And it can be something to watch or listen, as well. For example, often Type 6 likes to listen to music, and watch movies or some interesting documentaries, dramas, shows, etc.
At work, he feels good when everything is done according to the rules. And he prefers working with people who are as responsible as he is. Type 6 can a “strong link” in a team.
Also, at work, it is often difficult to criticize him of anything. Perhaps, except the fact that he is sometimes avoiding, or he is not doing tasks which according to him, are pointless and unnecessary. In these situations, his managers need to show patience and inventiveness. It is because, they need to find a way to encourage Type 6 somehow, and convince him, to do something that according to him is meaningless.
Learning often comes easily to him, and he can learn in different conditions and situations. Thanks to that, he does not have to devote as much time for learning as representatives of other types of characters.
Paradoxically, representatives of Type 6 may consider themselves lazy, although often they can work very effectively.
They can have the feeling that they are not very hard workers. It is because, after work, they are doing in free time mostly what they want. For example, they can sleep many hours, also during the day, long time they can watch TV, listen to music, browsing the internet, etc. These occupations could be considered as work, as well. However, it could be problematic whether it really could be counted as valuable occupations or not? But anyway representatives of Type 6 in this way are regenerating well to their next shift in work.
3.3.3.3. — Type 6 (Thinking—central or straight) — Soft Self-Esteem State (Vulnerable State).
In the Soft Self-Esteem State, Type 6 usually tries to be very controlled. It often happens in the case of this type. He is able for a long time to show that everything is OK with him, even though his nerves are stretched to the limits of endurance. However, if it lasts too long, he can suddenly “explode”. He may lose control when, there is no possibility of escaping into some retreat, to recharge his “batteries”. For example, if he lives with someone who can “get on his nerves”. It means, someone makes too much noise, enter uninvited on his area, behaves unpredictably, etc. Then, he starts to be very nervous and tens. And it may come to a verbal confrontation with someone who “breaks the peace”. If it does not help, it may go to blackmail and threats. In the worst case, he may even say something like, “if you do it again, I will be not responsible for my actions”. At the same time, he gives the impression that he is really ready to use his strength or other drastic measures, if necessary. So, in such a situation, it can come to various drastic and unpleasant after-effects. And, even it can get physical or to blows. Then people, who know Type 6, can be very surprised by his unusual behavior and by this, what he is capable of. This surprise can be huge because he is usually a very controlled person.
Type 6 in the Soft Self-Esteem State, can also complain a lot, and he likes to have somebody to talk about what he does not like. For example, about irresponsible and unreliable people with whom he has to work or spend time in some way. He can often complain, very, very long time. He can do it until he is entirely “saturated” with complaining about other people's faults. After these sessions of complaining, he often starts to have a good mood, he is self-satisfied, and in general, he is happy with his life.
3.3.3.4. — Type 6 (Thinking—central or straight) — Unconscious State.
In the Unconscious State, Type 6 moves to opposite Type 3. Actually, he wants to become Type 3. Type 3, among other things, is able to have a big influence on others, can be a social butterfly, can behave like a show-business star, be someone who can attract others attention, etc. Type 6 is often unable to do this in his Conscious State. But he lacks it very much. And, this lack he is trying to make up in his Unconscious State. He does this, for example, that he tries somehow to enter himself into an entertaining and playful way of being.
To do so, he must do something to not control himself too much. He tries to be less responsible. He wants to lose his common-sense, at least for some time.
So, what he is doing to be loose and relax?
He is doing it, for example, by listening to the music he likes, watching movies, shows, reading relevant articles, books, etc.
However, if he wants to be sure that he will achieve the right amount of relaxation, he can take more effective measures, such as alcohol.
It is because sometimes the pressure of being relaxed can be very big. Then, what he can do? Then, he can pour a lot of alcohol into himself, to lose enough control. Enough to become the social butterfly. For example, a lot of effort may cost Type 6 to mobilize himself to start a chat with a girl (or a boy) who catches his eye. Of course, it can be a big problem for everyone. But Type 6 seems to be among these, who are struggling the most with this challenge.
He can, like any other type of character, find himself in the Unconscious State without much trouble. For example, when he is alone in secluded and comfortable places, in an environment that he knows well and where he feels good, etc. But, certainly, it is not the same as being the social butterfly. Not only in the home but also among many people, outside his home or his private area. Being the soul of the company when he is alone or among the closest ones, or among well-known people, can be not so attractive. It means, of course, spending time with close people is very attractive. But the point is that Type 6 would like to have the freedom of shining and be relaxed between people. Regardless of whether they are friends or strangers. And, regardless of whether he is spending time in his private place or in a completely new and strange area.
From this situation, Type 6 tries to get out in this way that he is making friends with people who are very entertaining. Thanks to them, (or through them) it will be easier for him to make contacts with others. For example, it will be easier for him to go to some parties, or it will be easier for him to organize the party with the help the entertaining friend. So, these entertaining friends are beneficial to him. Interesting here is the fact that these valuable friends are not always people who fit him mentally or physically. He may even not like them too much. However, their usefulness is worth keeping friendship with them. Then, Type 6 and his useful friends they are complementary to each other.
So generally, Type 6 often misses for some partying and other entertaining time that he can spend with other people. He also spends a lot of time thinking about how he could find himself in different social situations?
However, despite his misses for the amusement lifestyle, he is often difficult for him to enter entirely new situations. Especially in these situations where is relaxation and fun. That is why he feels better with people he already knows. For example, at work, at home, in a place of residence, a workers’ hotel, hostel, etc. In these places where he is surrounded by friends, with time he becomes more and more fun and relaxed.
3.3.4. — Type 9 — Anger, Air, Intuition—central or straight.

3.3.4.1. — Type 9 (Thinking—central or straight) — Conscious State.
In the Conscious State, Type 9 often balances between two worlds. The external and internal world. So, he balances between what is happening outside of him. And this, what is going on in his head, in the world on his thoughts.
Then, Type 9, so to speak, is often hang, somewhere between the inner and outer world. And, he can quickly provide himself into this space between two worlds actually in every life situation. He is able to do this even during a conversation with someone. For example, during the conversation, he may hear something that will lead to his inner world. And there, he will start to think about something interesting for him. However, in order to not be accused that he is not participating in the conversation, after a while he emerges from his thoughts. Then, he checks whether he is in touch with the topic of conversation or not. Also, he can join the conversation for a moment to show that he is listening. But actually, he is hiding his inner thinking. He does not want to be discovered by someone that he is not fully focused all the time on the conversation. Next, he is going back to his inner world again. And after some time, he will come out another time, to make the impression that he is a good and attentive listener.
This behavior gives the impression that a normal conversation is giving him too much information. Too much to keep up with somebody’s talking all the time. Instead, Type 9 prefers to gain insight into some subjects at his own pace. So, he has own tempo which once is slow, and other time is quick. But usually it is not as it should be. It means, it is not as required by the given moment and situation.
Does it mean that Type 9 is not able to listen to others carefully? Actually yes. But, we have here the interesting paradox. Despite such selective listening to others (or thanks to this), he is one of the best listeners among all types of characters. It is because, that in life, it is probably so, that it is tough all the time to listen to people very carefully and insightfully. It is hard because we are actually not able to fully analyze and study what others are saying. And, it is impossible to relate to everything, what is flowing to us from the lips of others.
In addition to the above, it is also interesting that, although Type 9 listens to others not carefully, he probably remembers the most. It means, he remembers the most important information from talks with others among all types of characters. Besides, he takes care, and he is worried about what others say.
In general, he is not interested in encyclopedic knowledge. Instead, it fascinates him to know a lot about various topics. Simply, he wants to know something that is new and interesting for him. The conversation with someone who shows off his high knowledge and erudition is usually difficult to embrace for him. Such talk often bores or overwhelms him. Therefore, he is often “flowing away” into his world of thoughts. It helps him to survive somehow during somebody’s knowledgeable speech.
For Type 9, diving into his thoughts, it is actually a way of survival in the real world. For example, he is doing it during boring and tedious work. Thanks to this, time flies more quickly. It has its pros and cons. It is because, on the one hand, thanks to this, Type 9 can be innovative or exploratory. And, on the other hand, sometimes he is really very distracted.
He can also get into a problem so deeply that he neglects other matters. It is an advantage and disadvantage depending on the situation. The advantage of this is, for example, that he can penetrate more deeply into some issues than most of the other types of characters. This is due, among others, to the fact that often it is difficult for him to be focused longer time on the main topic or problem. Instead, he is not focused too much, and through his head are flowing different thoughts and loose associations. And, these thoughts and associations are often unrelated to the main topic or problem, which actually he should think about. However, often thoughts from various fields in his mind connect together. Thanks to that, various mixtures of thoughts are created. These mixtures can be very unusual, surprising and revealing. The disadvantage of such way of thinking can be that sometimes it is difficult for him to think about things that are typical, ordinary, clear and obvious to most people. It can cause confusion and sometimes even nervousness of others who cannot understand how someone can be so strange and feather-headed. And, for some people, he can be just stupid and abnormal.
Also, often the difficulty of Type 9 is the fact that he is not much interested in caring about material things. And, he may not take enough care of his private matters and needs. Because of this, for example, he may not care properly about his body and about his health. It even happens that when something hurts him, he is able not to tell anyone about it. At the same time, he tries not to let others that something hurts him. Mostly, he hopes that the pain somehow will pass by and that he will deal with it himself. Similarly, he can also react to his other problems. Often, even his closest relatives may not know that he is struggling with some difficulty, pain or suffering. Such an approach to own problems can be related to the fact that often Type 9 thinks, that he has little value. That he is unworthy and not deserve better treatment from others. So, it is difficult for him to ask others for devoting for him some care, time and attention. And it is something in it, Type 9 by his attitude is creating strange principle. That is, first Type 9 does not bother others with his problems. Next others start ignoring him because there is no problem with him. All in all, for this reason, Type 9 is probably the most neglected type among all types of characters.
3.3.4.2. — Type 9 (Thinking—central or straight) — Strong Self-Esteem State (Power State).
In the Strong Self-Esteem State, Type 9 can move to both Type 3 and Type 6.
If he moves towards Type 6, he may start making some sort of logical thinking. Or, he may say something about his various considerations. To start presenting his thoughts, he can be encouraged by someone who is interested in his opinion about something. By someone who listens to him, and shows him his interests. After some time, however, he may become too much absorbed by his considerations. And, he may not pay attention to whether he is listened to at all. Or, whether his listener is still interested in what he is saying? This kind of behavior seldom happen to him in his Conscious State, because then he constantly checks whether somebody really listens or not?
Type 9, in the Strong Self-Esteem State, can also move towards Type 3. And then he is able to behave funnily. For example, suddenly, he is telling or doing something that is making people laugh. Then, he may play with children, and invent some fun playing, dance in some unpredictable and comic way, tell jokes, make some strange comments, tell funny sentences, etc. Type 9 is then surprising and spontaneous. His humor often comes from the impulse, without planning in advance. So, later often he is not able to repeat it in the same way.
3.3.4.3. — Type 9 (Thinking—central or straight) — Soft Self-Esteem State (Vulnerable State).
In the Soft Self-Esteem State, Type 9 can move to either Type 3 or Type 6.
If Type 9 will go to Type 6, he can become very logical. Then, for example, he analyzes every move he makes. And, often it is difficult for him to change it or to stop this analyzing manner. So, everything that he wants to do seems for him stupid or inappropriate. And the more he thinks about it, the less and less he is able to make some move. It is difficult for him to get out of this vicious circle until he somehow manages to finally relax in some way. Or until he starts to deal with something else. Something that is completely unrelated to what he should do.
But, when he deals with something other than what he should do at the particular moment, it is also inappropriate. It is because, after all, he should deal with what he should do. Then, this fact makes Type 9 disappointed about himself. And, in this case, he begins to think even more intensely, what to do, in order to do, what he should do. So, all in all, he thinks a lot about how he may do something? But the more he thinks about it, it is harder for him to do anything.
Then, it comes to the fact that he has then an excess of thinking and analyzing every move he could or should make. This, in turn, makes him either unable to do anything or to do something with great difficulty.
Type 9 in the Soft Self-Esteem State can also move towards type 3. Then, he can behave in such a way that he quickly and jumpily tries to do something in the right way. Or generally, he tries to act quickly and appropriately. Often such a way of dealing and acting in Soft Self-Esteem State does not go well, and his effects are rarely what he would expect. For example, he often does something completely illogical at that time. So, that even he does not understand, and he is not able to explain to himself and others, why he did something in the wrong or strange way. This is often due to too hectic behavior. In fact, he is trying to improve his value as soon as possible. Improve his value and opinion in his own and other’s eyes. But such illogical and too hasty actions often only makes his situation worse. And, he is risking that he will lose his value in the eyes of others. It is because, others either judge him badly, or they are so confused that they have no idea how to evaluate his behavior? How to explain his illogical behavior, and what they would think about him?
3.3.4.4. — Type 9 (Thinking—central or straight) — Unconscious State.
In the Unconscious State, Type 9 goes to the opposite Type 11. Then he often becomes interested in pleasures and material needs. It is actually the only one psychological state in the case of Type 9 when he is taking care of himself. When he is able to do something for himself. Then, he allows himself for various pleasures.
In general, he likes many pleasures related to the body. For example, good food and drink, physical exercises, dancing, swimming, tourism, and all kinds of movement during which he can experience and feel his body. Such experience can manifest in many ways. Then, he likes, for instance, to eat something. Often he likes to eat slowly, to prolong the pleasure which is connected with it as long as possible. If he likes baths, he will try to take them when he does not have to finish it quickly. If he likes physical effort, he will try to organize it so that he can enjoy it. And so on.
It often happens that thanks to Unconscious State, Type 9 likes sport, and he can be very good in various kinds of sport. However, paradoxically, successes in sports competitions cannot interest him so much. Although, like every type of character, he likes to win. But it conflicts with his tendency to a compromise. He takes care of the compromise and balance between people in his Conscious State. Therefore, he can be successful, mainly when he is under the influence of his Unconscious State. However, in serious tournaments, it is difficult to be under the influence of the Unconsciousness. It is because usually in challenging situations we strive to be under control of our Consciousness. We try to be as conscious as possible. That is why, despite good results in training, he may not achieve many successes in serious competitions. Although there are possible moments when his Unconscious State will take over, and he will show up from time to time a remarkable achievement.
In general, however, he can be lost entirely in the sport. Especially he may like different contact disciplines, such as team games (like football), martial arts (like wrestling). He also likes sports that last for a long time, and which he can enjoy as long as he wants.
Type 9, often has a large lack of physical contact. It is because in Conscious State he is somehow separated from his body. This separation has mainly this cause that Type 9 in his Conscious State likes to be in his world of thoughts. Therefore, in the Unconscious State, he wants to be with his body as close as possible. And, he likes to do something that will allow him to feel his body, and realize that his body actually exist, and that he really has his body.

And so, it is how 12 types of characters look like. It was my first short attempt to describing the types of Mandala of Characters. That is typology which combines ancient typology, Jung’s “Psychological Types”, and the Enneagram.
Please treat the above descriptions of the types of the Mandala of Characters as the introduction. These descriptions are covering only a small part of the features of each type.
At this stage of development of the Mandala of Characters, what I described above seemed to me not too clear and expressive. It is not clear, for example, the naming of types. I thought that names should be more accessible and easier to remember.
So, everything needed to be refined and developed.
