7. MTR-i™—Management Team Roles Indicator™

The diagram below shows an indicator called MTR-i™ (Management Team Roles Indicator™). The author of this indicator is Steve Myers.

The diagram above Steve Myers showed in March 2007 on his blog. This blog is not available now. Currently, a simplified version of this diagram we can find at:

The MTR-i™ is an extension to the MBTI® (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®), which I talked about in the previous chapter.

MBTI® describes individual personality types.

MTR-i™ describes team roles. These are roles that people of certain types can play in a team, crew, staff, etc.

Both indicators are based on Jung’s “Personality Types”.

In the above MTR-i™ diagram, there are also 16 four-letter designations such as ENTJ, INTP, ISTP, etc. These designations are derived from the MBTI®.

The above Steve Myers’ diagram inspired me a lot. It was very helpful for me in the initial period of creating of the Mandala of Characters. I came back to it many times and analyzed it.

MTR-i™ diagram is similar to the diagram of Jung’s typology. Both are divided into 8 parts that are arranged analogically. The team roles in MTR-i™ are as follows:

  • Seextraverted Sensing—Sculptor
  • Siintroverted Sensing—Curator
  • Teextraverted Thinking—Conductor
  • Tiintroverted Thinking—Scientist
  • Feextraverted Feeling—Coach
  • Fiintroverted Feeling—Crusader
  • Neextraverted Intuition—Explorer
  • Niintroverted Intuition—Innovator

Descriptive team roles names (Sculptor, Curator, etc.) we can find here.
http://www.team-technology.co.uk/poster.html
We can see there the descriptions of individual team roles.

In the diagram below, I present the team roles of the MTR-i™, which I matched to the Mandala of Characters.

As I said before, MTR-i™ is an extension to the Myers-Briggs® theory. Therefore, in the diagram above, we can see that MTR-i™ I placed on the background of types and preferences from the Myers-Briggs® typology.

The above MTR-i™ Steve Myers introduced in 2000. Since then, Steve Myers has written many exciting publications. His thought and analyzes are very revealing and profound. The list of these publications we can find on his website:
https://steve.myers.co/about/

In turn, on his YouTube channel, we can listen to several of his lectures.

Personally, I have a lot of sympathy for Steve Myers. He was one of the first typology researchers who inspired me to learn about human personalities. I am very grateful to him for that.
