Update 1.10 — position

The next update concerns a set of words at the bottom of the Mandala of Character. It is following set:

EARTH
     SENSING, benefit
sorrow, autumn

I think that I need to add to this set one more term. There are two reasons for this. The first reason is due to my thoughts and observations of the type of character—Earth.

The second reason is lack of opposition to the term “balance”. “Balance” I added in the previous update (1.09), and, I think, I need to add the term which will make opposition to it.

The word which seems to be appropriate here is the word—“position”. The “position” is both the opposite to the “balance”, and it fits the character traits that have the type—Earth.

Why do I think so?

Let’s start by explaining why the “position” is the opposite of the “balance”?. To explain this, firstly I will look at the “balance”.

“Balance” in the symbolic sense often concerns matters related to the Air type. “Balance” must be maintained when we are suspended somewhere in the air. Or we are standing somewhere where it is high, and from the ground separated us a large distance. For example, we can balance on the edge of the bridge, on the edge of the precipice or abyss, on the rope, etc. When it comes to typical life, the “balance” is often related to issues, as it is said, off the ground. So, these are matters that are not very specific and concrete. They concern issues like theories, regulations, rules, principles, designs, models, imaginations, diagrams, projects, etc. For example, these may be matters connected with: beliefs, intuition, art, justice, some ideas, appropriate planning, with various considerations on the past and future, etc. In this type of matters, we need to keep the right balance or equilibrium. Therefore, the “balance” in a high degree relates to the Air. It means, the Air understand both in the real and symbolic sense.

In turn, the word “position” will in the metaphorical sense refer mainly to the Earth. The example of this can be the phrase—convenient, (favorable) position or place. Among other things, it can mean comfortable position of our body, good observation point, a good place to defend or attack, a good place in the queue, a good place to start in some competition, a good position to make career, a good place to do business, etc. These types of factors concern the Earth. It means matters or problems that need to be brought down to Earth, that is, to reality.

In that case, on the Mandala of Characters, the word “position” may indicate and lead us to traits that have the type of character—Earth. Let’s list several meanings of the word “position”:

  • a place that is defined by the distance from other points, objects, etc.;
  • the specific position of the human body;
  • someone’s place and meaning in specific group or society, for example, a position in the scientific (artistic, business, etc.) society;
  • a place in the list, record, or something where someone or something that is mentioned in a plan, poster, program, etc.;
  • a thing or an object from a series, or some field;
  • in sport in team players: the place of the player on the field;
  • in military tactics, a section of terrain adapted for defense or an attack.

In addition, the word “position” we can associate with such phrases as function, condition, location, place, point, paragraph, program part, pose, body position, rank, etc.

The above meanings of the word “position” and the words connected with it, can tell us a lot about the features of the Earth type. Generally, we can probably say that this type is interested in all kinds of positions that we can have in life. For example, it can manifest in the fact that the Earth type:

  • will take care of the positions he has;
  • will defend his positions if they will be in any risk or danger;
  • will strive to achieve new favorable positions for himself;
  • will be happy when he gets some new beneficial positions;
  • etc.

In conclusion, the Earth type will do what he can to have a convenient “position” in life.

So, let’s add the word “position” to the set of words at the bottom of the Mandala of Characters. This set now will look like this:

EARTH
position, SENSING, benefit
sorrow, autumn

Then, I put this updated set of words on the Mandala. Please look at the diagram below.

In the above diagram, we can see that the word “position” has been added on the left side of the word “SENSING”. I placed it there to set the opposition to the word “balance”, which we can find on another side of the Mandala of Characters.

Besides, the “position” is associated with the phrases “difference” and “here and now”. We can say, for example, it is because it makes a big difference in what position we take in life. Life position distinguishes us. Often, the life position distinguishes us in a very determined way.

When it comes to linking the phrases “position” and “here and now”, we can say, for example, that when we enjoy a comfortable position, and we are relaxed, we are here and now. We do not think about the future, nor about worries that relate to it. Another example might be a position while watching TV. We need to find a comfortable position to be able fully to enjoy a show, drama, documentary, movie, etc. Then we can be fully involved in the TV program. We can forget about problems that await us in the future, and the problems that we left in the past. Having a comfortable and convenient position while watching TV, we can be “here and now”. It would be difficult to achieve this if we would watch TV when we have standing or we are in another uncomfortable position. Then, we would rather be planning how to take a better position in this situation. But if we are planning, we are thinking about the future. It means, about the time. So, if we think about the future, we are not “here and now”.

In summary, the changes regarding the key-words describing the nature of Earth type, are these:

  • I added in this update (1.10) the word “position”.
  • In the update 1.08, I added the word “benefit”.

Thanks to this, the Earth type can be divided into three groups:

  1. “Benefit” advantage.
    Representatives of the Earth type, who are using “benefit” to a greater extent than “position”.
  2. “Position” advantage.
    Representatives of the Earth type, who are using “position” to a greater extent than “benefit”.
  3. The balance between “benefit” and “position”.
    Representatives of the Earth type who are using “position” and “benefit” in an equal or similar degree.
